The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) urged the faithful to “pray seriously” regarding the forthcoming Synod of Bishops and the notion of a "synodal" church.

The CBCP President, Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, led the Mass at the Antipolo Cathedral on May 31. During Mass at the Antipolo Cathedral on Wednesday, David called for prayers so that the synod "will become a new Pentecost event for the universal Church," he said in a statement posted on CBCP News. The theme of the synod was "For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission." David summed up the theme with the slogan, "Like Mary, we are blessed to be a blessing." “We pray, therefore, that the coming synod may become an opportunity for genuine renewal among our laity, religious and ordained ministers, so that we can grow together in greater synodality into a more participatory church,” David said. “In a nutshell, this is also what the mission of the church is about: to be blessed in order to be a blessing to the world." “We have no other blessing to share with the world except the blessing that we ourselves have received—Jesus Christ, in whose life and mission we have been called to participate," he added. David also said that we can't bring Christ to the world unless we join him and stay in him like branches on a vine. The Mass had been taken over by CBCP Vice President Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara of Pasig, Bishop Buenaventura Famadico of San Pablo, and Bishop Francisco de Leon, the current administrator of Antipolo. However, Archbishop Jose Palma emphasized in Cebu that "in order for us to travel together and listen to one another, we must learn how to listen to God." Meanwhile, Palma in Lapu-Lapu City stated during Mass at the National Shrine of Nuestra Seora de Regla that "if we know how to listen to God, then we know how and what to say." In addition, the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Mother will also be held in two sessions in Oct. 2023 and Oct. 2024. *(Rhowen Del Rosario)* RELATED STORY: [https://mb.com.ph/2023/5/30/26-ph-marian-shrines-minor-basilicas-to-hold-prayers-for-universal-synod-on-may-31](https://mb.com.ph/2023/5/30/26-ph-marian-shrines-minor-basilicas-to-hold-prayers-for-universal-synod-on-may-31)
