Bohol eyes strong economic ties with China


CEBU CITY – The provincial government of Bohol is looking forward to a more vibrant trade and economic ties with China.

This after Consul General Zhang Zhen of China in Cebu paid a courtesy visit to Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado at the Bohol Provincial Capitol in Tagbilaran City on Monday, May 29.

Zhen was accompanied by Consular Officer Jinpei Song and Assistant for the Consul General Mu Haixin.

Aside from Aumentado, the Chinese delegation was also welcomed by Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte, Bohol Provincial Tourism Office head Josephine Cabarrus, and Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office chief Maria Fe Dominise.

Various programs that would boost China’s relations with Bohol were discussed during the meeting.

“During the meeting, we discussed possible cooperation to boost culture, tourism, economy, investments, agriculture, and people-to-people ties,” said Aumentado.

Zhen presented various opportunities that would help boost Bohol’s local economy through the advantages of visa-free travel for Chinese tourists, Aumentado said.

“We also talked about the possible creation of a sisterhood agreement between Bohol and the province of Jiangxi,” Aumentado said.

Aumentado noted the importance of improving Bohol’s relations with China as Chinese tourists are among the province’s top visitors.

During the visit, Zhen also congratulated Bohol for becoming one of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization Global Geoparks.
