Out-going Balanga Bishop Ruperto C. Santos has called on the faithful of Bataan to continue their fight and resistance against the planned revival of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.

Bishop Santos said the people of Bataan “must continue to stand their ground to protect the environment as well as the welfare and well-being of the residents.”
The Church leader will head the Diocese of Antipolo in the next two months to take the place of retired bishop Francisco de Leon who has reached the mandatory retirement age for bishops of 75 years old.
The bishop’s transfer will make the Diocese of Balanga, which he has led for 13 years, ‘sede vacante.’
“I am not bothered that the people of Bataan will give up the fight against the revival of the BNPP. The local government of Bataan and the whole community are one and united in their stand against the revival of the nuclear power plant,” said Bishop Santos over Radio Veritas.
“The resistance against the revival of the BNPP is already in the mind and in the heart of the diocese and of the province. We have nothing to worry about because the local government and the Church are one in this fight,’ the prelate said.
Aside from the Church leader, Bataan Governor Albert Garcia has also expressed his apprehensions on the revival of the mothballed power plant. He has, instead, suggested for the 50 year old facility to be used as a cloud-computing and data storage facility.
