Animal rights group set to march again after 4-year-hiatus

Animal rights groups are set to march again on the streets of Manila on Saturday, June 3, after a four-year hiatus.
Animal Rights March is an annual event composed of local independent animal rights activists. It was last staged in October 2019 and was postponed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Members of the animal rights groups said the march seeks to unite the vegan and animal rights community and inspire other people to stand in solidarity to end animal cruelty. "This event will bring to light the ways in which animals are being abused, exploited and tortured in the food, pharmaceutical, entertainment, fashion and sport industries. Animal Rights March – Manila, Philippines, ultimately intends to call for the total liberation of all beings and to demand an end to all animal oppression," they also stated. Jofer Santos, one of the organizers, said the assembly meeting will be held at the Kartilya ng Katipunan at 12:40 p.m. before they march from Taft to Quirino Avenues at 2 p.m. Seven local animal rights activists will talk about animal liberation; animal rights as a social justice issue; the interconnectedness of different liberation movements and struggles; the importance of animal rights activism; different ways on how to become active for the animals; and mutual aid and community building. The endpoint of the march will be Katigbak Drive, near the Quirino Grandstand. Hundreds of vegans, animal lovers, and rights advocates from all over the country are expected to join the march.
