The Manila Police District (MPD) announced on Wednesday, May 31, that nine members of the notorious "Laglag-Barya Gang", who were earlier arrested in anti-illegal drugs operations, were charged with theft on May 25.

MPD said the nine suspects were nabbed last May 21 and 22 for illegal possession of drugs in separate buy-bust operations in Sta. Cruz and Quiapo.

Lt. Col. Ram Solas, MPD Sta. Cruz  Station (PS3) commander, said the suspects were later identified by a 50-year-old victim as the same people who took his pouch containing P350,000 cash last May 8 at about 12:20 p.m. on Rizal Avenue in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

The victim said he was on board his car when the suspects approached him to inform him that he dropped his money on the road.

As the victim alighted from his car to check, the suspects grabbed his belongings.

"Since nakakulong na sila (due to illegal drugs), nag-file kami ng another case na theft dahil sa nangyaring laglag barya (Since they are already in jail, we just filed another case of theft because of the laglag-barya incident)," Solas said. (Richielyn Canlas)
