60 Caloocan residents sign up for internship program

The Caloocan City government announced on Wednesday, May 31, that a total of 60 residents have signed up and underwent orientation for the city's Government Internship Program (GIP).

The program was launched in partnership with the City Public Employment Services Office (PESO) and the Department of Labor and Employment and is open to all senior high school and college graduates, 18 to 30 years old, who are residents of Caloocan.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan said the interns will be assigned to various departments in the City Hall for three months and will receive daily minimum wage.

"We are hoping that this program will not only help them financially but it will also give them ample experience once they join the real workforce," he said.

PESO Officer-in-Charge Ms. Violeta Gonzales said the deployment of the interns will be based on their skills and specialization.

“Ina-assign natin sila sa mga tanggapan kung saan mas malilinang ang kanilang talento at kapasidad. Hindi po sila magiging display lamang dahil talagang magtratrabaho po sila tulad ng ating mga karaniwang empleyado sa Pamahalaang Lungsod (We will assign them to offices where their talents and capacities can be used. They will not be just a display because they will actually work like our regular employees in the City Government)," she stated.

Malapitan also encouraged the beneficiaries to do their best since the city government is open to hiring interns with remarkable performance during their internship.

“Marami po sa ating mga kawani ang nagsimula sa pagiging GIP bago pa sila tuluyang naging mga ganap na empleyado ng ating pamahalaang lungsod. Sa ating mga GIPs, pag-igihan niyo lamang po at baka pagiging lingkod bayan din ang nakatadhanang propesyon para sa inyo (Many of our staff started as GIP before they became employees of our city government. To our GIPs, just persevere and maybe being a public servant is also your calling),” he said.
