PHNOM PENH, Cambodia—Janry Ubas delivered the Philippines’ second gold medal in athletics just as Teia Salvino made a splash in women's 100m backstroke on Tuesday, May 9, in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Morodok Techo National Stadium here.
The 29-year-old Ubas leapt 7.85 meters on his first attempt to capture the win – his first in the biennial meet since joining the national team in 2015.

Vietnam’s Toem Trong Nguyen came in silver with 7.66m while Indonesia’s Sapwaturrahman finished bronze in 7.62m.
Ubas’ victory came a few moments after Salvino broke the national and SEAG record in her at the same venue.
Salvino clocked 1 minute and 1.64 seconds to eclipse the PH mark of 1:02.70 held by Chloe Isleta at last year’s ASEAN University Games in Thailand, as well as the Games record of 1:01.89 by Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur.
