ILOILO CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced that chartered flights for Chinese tourists bound for Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province have resumed.

“This only manifests the fact that Boracay remains a popular destination for Chinese tourists,” said DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco in a statement. “Together with the local government and our very active private stakeholders, we shall aggressively pursue the promotion of sustainable and responsible tourism in Boracay so that more will come to enjoy its beauty in the long run,” the Tourism Secretary added. Last April 18, a chartered flight of OK Airlines carrying 180 Chinese tourists landed at Kalibo International Airport in the provincial capital of Kalibo. DOT noted it was the first chartered flight from China since the country opened to international visitors only last Jan. 8. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, tourists from China were the number one foreign visitors of Boracay. In 2019, 434,175 Chinese tourists visited Boracay. "The DOT looks forward to equaling, if not surpassing, the number of Chinese visitors we received before the pandemic,” added Frasco.
