Metro Manila, 7 other Luzon areas post 'high' Covid-19 positivity rates — OCTA
Aside from Metro Manila, the Covid-19 positivity rates in seven Luzon areas have exceeded 20 percent, which is considered as “high,” according to the metrics used by OCTA Research.
In an update on Sunday night, May 7, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said the seven-day Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has increased from 17.2 percent on April 29 to 22.7 percent on May 6.
High positivity rates were also observed in Batangas (from 11.2 percent to 23.2 percent), Bulacan (from 10.4 percent to 20.1 percent), Camarines Sur (39.7 percent to 45.1 percent), Cavite (from 28 percent to 35.3 percent), Isabela (from 16.7 percent to 25.9 percent), Laguna (from 18.5 percent to 23.8 percent), and Rizal (from 28.5 percent to 38.8 percent).

David previously stated that the spread of the Covid-19 Omicron subvariant XBB.1.16 may have contributed to the increase in Covid-19 cases. Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19. The benchmark for the positivity rate set by the World Health Organization is 5 percent. On May 7, the Department of Health reported 1,920 new Covid-19 cases across the country, of which 784 cases were recorded in Metro Manila. David projected that the country may record 1,400 to 1,600 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, May 8. He said the country’s current positivity rate is 19.9 percent, up slightly from 19.3 percent during the previous day. David noted that the current Covid-19 cases may begin to decline “hopefully by late May or June.”
