Son of former soldier tops PMA Madasigon Class of 2023

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City – The son of a former soldier from Lipa City, Batangas topped the Philippine Military Academy Mandirigmang may Dangal Simbolo ng Galing at Pagbangon (Madasigon) Class of 2023.
PMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Rowen S. Tolentino, in a media conference on Monday morning, May 8, said Cadet First Class Warren Leonor, 22, class valedictorian and cum laude, will receive the Presidential Saber Award, Academic Group Award for being No. 1 in all academic courses, management plaque, and social sciences plaque. As the topnotcher, he will also receive the Philippine Air Force Saber for joining the Philippine Air Force, Australian Defense Best Overall Performance award, Air Force Professional Courses plaque, Gen. Antonio Luna award, Spanish Armed Forces award, National Security Studies plaque, Tactics Group award, SPDU plaque, and JUSMAG Saber award. Tolentino said salutatorian is Cadet First Class Edmundo Logronio, 23, of Manito, Albay. He will join the Philippine Army and will receive the Vice Presidential Saber Award, Australian Defense Best Overall Performance plaque, Aguinaldo Saber, Philippine Army Saber, Department of Tactical Officers plaque, and Army Professional Courses plaque. No. 3 is Cadet First Class Nicole Sarmiento, 22, of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, who will join PA; No. 4 is Zhen Zhen Cayton, 23, of Dupax del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya, PAF; No. 5, Rez Mark Cantor, 22, of Bugallon, Pangasinan, PA; No. 6, Rojan Macario, 21, of Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City, PA; No. 7, Samuel Banac, 22, of West Fairview, Quezon City, PAF; No. 8, Kimberly Lawingan, 22, of Sadanga, Mountain Province, Philippine Navy; No. 9 Rico Jay Fernandez, 21, of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, PN; and No. 10, Arla Krish Bahingawan, 23, of Kiangan, Ifugao, PAF. Seven cadets of the Madasigon Class are graduating cum laude and will also receive awards – Daniel Louie Castor, 22, of Calinog, Iloilo; JL Escauriasa, 23, of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur; Alvin Uday, 23, of Amulung, Cagayan; Richter James Escobia, 22, of Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; Rhyll Romerosa, 23, of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte; Henry Cordova, 24, of Pikit, North Cotabato, and Maria Ysabelle Verzosa of Baguio City. Other awardees were Cadet First Class John Troy Albano, 22, of Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Chief of Staff Saber award as brigade commander of the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines; Jeuel Ariel Wangwang, 22, of Bontoc, Mountain Province, Department of Information Technology plaque; Carlo Andrei Valecia, 22, of Carmona, Cavite, Natural Sciences plaque; Jasper Balunso, 21, of Albay, Navy Courses Professional plaque; and John Cris Galusmo, 23, of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, journalism award. John Rozz Oggang, 23, of Tinglayan, Kalinga and Alliyah Mae Lopinac, 21, of Hermosa, Bataan, will receive the Athletic Saber. Three-hundred eleven Madasigon class cadets – 239 men and 72 women – will graduate on May 21. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., as commander-in-chief, is the guest of honor and speaker.
