CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Two New People’s Army rebels surrendered to authorities in General Nakar, Quezon, on Sunday, May 7.
Police Regional Office 4-A Director Police Brig. Gen. Carlito Gaces said the surrenderers were brothers Marlon Gurango, alias “Toto,” 27, and Jayson, 35.
They are members of the Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) under Platun 2 (YGM), Komiteng Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Narciso, Sub-Regional Military Area 4-A (SRMA 4-A) of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC).
Marlon was included in the Periodic Status Report Listed (PSRL) of the Communist Party of the Philippine-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CNN Watchlist 2021) while Jayson was listed as Non-Periodic Status Report (NPSRL).
The rebel returnees revealed that they were recruited by Wally Agudez, alias “Estong” and “Shano,” sometime in August 2017 in Sitio Lagmak, Barangay Pagsangahan, General Nakar, where they studied party courses and took their oath as Ganap ng Kasapi (GK) and became members of the SPL during the NPA anniversary on Dec. 26, 2017 in Sitio Madaraki, Barangay Umiray, General Nakar.
Marlon said he became a messenger, food courier, and guide of Platun 1 while Jayson was assigned as contact of “Susing Masa” of Platun 2 (YGM) in Sitios Madaraki and Lagmak and Sitio Cacawayan, Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta, Quezon from 2017 to 2022.
Jayson and Marlon turned over a caliber .38 revolver with six bullets and a hand grenade.
They underwent documentation and custodial debriefing before the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4-A.
