'Why not': Clarita Carlos wants PH to make bid for COP 30

Professor Clarita Carlos is serious about her campaign on mitigating the effects of climate change. In a Facebook post over the weekend, Carlos, who is House Speaker Martin Romualdez's chief policy adviser on security and defense concerns, seemingly challenges the government to make a bid for hosting the COP 30 in 2025. "Let us launch a bid to host COP 30 intl summit on Climate Change in 2025! "Why not!!" wrote the former national security adviser of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. COP stands for Conference of the Parties, which refers to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) parties. The formal, yearly meeting of the parties represent the United Nations Climate Change Conferences, or simply COP. The first such conference or COP 1 was held in Berlin, Germany in 1985. Since then, the conference has been held in Asia only thrice--the 1997 COP 3 Kyoto, Japan; the 2002 COP 8 New Delhi, India; and the 2007 COP 13 Bali, Indonesia.

Out of the last 10 conferences, seven have been held in European countries. This year's COP 28 will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Middle East. In an earlier Facebook post, Carlos identified climate change as "the enemy".
