PHNOM PENH, Cambodia—Jerard Jacinto reset the national record in men’s 50-meter backstroke on his way to winning the silver medal in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Morodok Techo Stadium here Sunday, May 7.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia—Jerard Jacinto and Teia Salvino reset national records in their respective events in the 32ndSoutheast Asian Games at the Morodok Techo Stadium here Sunday, May 7.
Jacinto, who just turned 22 two days ago, erased the PH mark twice in the men’s 50-meter backstroke – first, during the heats with a time of 25.77 seconds before eclipsing it anew in the finals with 25.56sec for the silver medal.
He finished behind Indonesian I Gede Siman Sudartawa, who bagged the gold in 25.16sec.
Jacinto’s feat came after winning the bronze medal also in record-breaking fashion in the 100m back a day before.
Salvino, meanwhile, clocked 28.95sec in the morning heats of the women’s 50m back to break the PH record of 29.35sec set by Jessica Geriane in the previous edition held last year in Hanoi, Vietnam.
She timed 28.99sec to clinch the bronze in the final.
So far, the PH swimming team has yet to win a gold medal after two days of competition with two silver and two bronzes.
The other silver came Saturday, May 6, in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay of Miranda Renner, Xiandi Chua, Teia Salvino and Jasmine Alkhaldi.
