The presence of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the United Kingdom (UK) over the weekend to witness the coronation of King Charles III, who assumed the throne after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, was a sign of the “friendship” between the two countries, British Ambassador to Manila Laure Beaufils said.

The envoy led the British Embassy in Manila’s “Coronation Picnic” on Saturday, May 6 (Manila time) ahead of the coronation of King Charles III.
“President Marcos’ presence in the Buckingham Palace yesterday and his attendance at the coronation today are all incredibly important signs of the friendship between our two nations,” she was quoted by state-run PTV in a tweet.
The Chief Executive went straight to London to attend a reception at the Buckingham Palace and witness the King’s coronation at Westminster Abbey after a series of meetings in the United States (US) with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and business delegates.
Beaufils expressed gratitude to Filipinos who support what she called “a historic moment for the UK.”
Filipinos flocked to the Quezon City Memorial Circle for a public screening of the coronation. They were seen waving the Union Jack, the flag of the United Kingdom.
“Thank you @QCMayorJoy for hosting our fabulous public screening of the #Coronation this evening and for lighting up the National Memorial Shrine of Quezon in red, white and blue to honour the occasion,” the ambassador tweeted.
