Pasigueños undergo first aid, life support, disaster training


Constituents of the Pasig City local government underwent training for standard first aid, basic life support, and disaster preparedness throughout April to May to mobilize and improve the city’s emergency response capacities.

It was led by the instructors from the Operations Division of the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), headed by Chief Bryant Wong.

According to the DRRMO social media page, the sessions have so far been conducted from April 13, 14, 22, 25 to 28, and May 2 to 3, with other sessions expected to continue this month.

Among the groups that received the training were eleven batches of local government employees, public school teachers, youth groups, homeowners association (HOA) officers, and personnel of business establishment such as Mama Sita’s.

The training was given to members of various sectors in the city’s communities in order to increase their awareness and knowledge on the basic principles and procedures of life support and first aid.

Drills and exercises were conducted to serve as practical experience for the participants. Instructors taught them the different placements, folds, and knots when bandaging injured parts of the body.

They were trained on the proper method of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) which they practiced using a CPR manikin.

Interactive lectures on disaster preparedness and life support were also held during their sessions.

These activities sought to enhance the abilities of participants to give proper care and aid in cases of medical emergencies and natural calamities in their communities, especially in the absence of emergency responders.

According to the Citizen’s Charter of the Pasig City DRRMO, they offer a “Training Development and Capability Skills Program,” which is done at the RED (Rescue, Emergency, Disaster) Training Center.

The courses offered by the RED Training Center include Basic Search & Rescue Technician Course, Technical Rope Rescue (Operation Level), Technical Rope Rescue (Technician Level), Crashed Vehicle Extrication and Rescue Training, Hazardous Materials – First Responders Course, Hazardous Materials – Operational Level, Basic Structural Collapsed Rescue, Small Boat Handling, Basic Fire Fighting, Urban Search and Rescue, Basic Swimming Course (Level I), Basic Water Survival Swimming Course, Basic Water Search and Rescue (Level III), and Flood / Swift Water Responders Training.
