New PRO-8 chief: No letup in drive vs crime

TACLOBAN CITY – There is no letup in the campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, and insurgency in Eastern Visayas, the newly installed Police Regional Office-8 chief assured.

Police Brig. Gen. Vincent Calanoga emphasized the importance of continuity and consistency in ensuring the smooth transition of command and the uninterrupted delivery of services to the people in Region 8.

He said that he puts his 100 percent trust in PRO-8 personnel that they will perform their respective duties and responsibilities faithfully and conduct themselves in accordance with ethical standards.

“We will have a more frequent performance audit to make sure that all personnel fully understand, appreciate, and embrace their respective responsibilities as human rights duty bearers,” Calanoga added.

He said that they will work closely with local government units as he wishes to be totally immersed with the community in maintaining peace and order as well as public safety.

Calanoga assumed the post from his predecessor, Police Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, during the change of command ceremony on Saturday, May 6, in Camp Secretary Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte.

The turnover ceremony was led by Police Lt. Gen. Patrick Villacorte, commander, Area Police Command-Visayas.

Prior to this assignment, Calanoga headed the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Calanoga is from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) “Tagapagkalinga” Class of 1991.

Marbil was assigned as officer-in-charge of the Directorate for Comptrollership.
