SARIAYA, Quezon – A 44-year-old man who was the subject of a search warrant for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act died in a shootout with police early Saturday morning, May 6, in Barangay Concepcion Banahaw in this town. Sariaya police identified the fatality as Marlon Mendoza, a resident of Sitio Tres Mango in Barangay Concepcion Bahanaw. Around 4:30 a.m., joint police teams were about to implement search warrants against Mendoza allegedly for possessing unlicensed firearms. The search warrants were issued by Executive Judge Agripino Bravo of the Regional Trial Court Fourth Judicial Region in Lucena City on May 5, 2023. Upon arrival at the house of Mendoza, the operating teams, together with the barangay officials, courteously knocked on the door but the suspect, instead of opening the door, allegedly fired at the operatives. Mendoza managed to get out of his house through an exit door at the kitchen, but the operatives who were in position returned fire and hit him.
