Magnitude-4.9 earthquake jolts Davao Occidental


BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.9 earthquake rocked Davao Occidental before dawn on Sunday, May 7, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 3:38 a.m. and its  epicenter was located 365 kilometers (kms) southeast of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The tremor had a depth of 50 kms, Phivolcs said.

No aftershocks or damages are expected from the tectonic earthquake caused by the movement of an active fault line in the area.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southern Mindanao and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
