BAGUIO CITY – A prominent bus company serving parts of Northern and Central Luzon is upgrading their terminal here to provide better services to passengers. Arnel Gabaig, terminal master of Victory Liner Baguio, said the rehabilitation that will make their terminal at PNR Compound, Utility Road, look like an airport will be completed in September. "Our terminal will look like an airport when it's finished. There is a large TV monitor that passengers or those who pick up can see the arrival of the bus and the arrival and departure schedule and time can be seen, so that people don't have to ask questions and more cashier booths will be added to make it easier for people to transact," said Gabaig.
ARNEL Gabaig (right), terminal master of Victory Liner Baguio, announces the ongoing rehabilitation of their terminal in Baguio City to further improve services. With him are Villamayor Maya, field operations manager, and Carlito Alcantara, terminal master. (Zaldy Comanda) He said the adjacent area owned by the company will be turned into an arrival area and there will be an orderly queue of taxis to avoid competing for passengers. "Just like an airport, there is a departure and arrival area, that's what will happen in our terminal, because the company wants to improve service to the public, especially to passengers. The rehabilitation of the terminals will also be done in other terminals to make its service consistent," according to Gabaig. Gabaig said they will improve their online booking as 80 percent of passengers still use this service. He said now that Covid alert levels have eased, 80 to 100 percent of their passengers before the pandemic are returning to areas where they have lines. Villamayor Maya, Victory Liner field operations manager, said they strictly enforce the speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) for buses for the safety of passengers and in compliance with the orders of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board. This is the reason why, he said, a trip to Baguio takes six to seven hours even when passing through the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway. He said their buses always go through mechanical inspection before a trip to ensure road worthiness and that their conductors and drivers regularly undergo training and seminars to ensure their capacity to travel and provide good services to passengers. Victory Liner, which started its line or franchise in the province of Zambales and expanded to Pangasinan, Baguio City, Isabela, and Cagayan, will celebrate its 78th anniversary on Oct. 15.
