ILOILO CITY – Archbishop Victor Bendico presided over his first Sunday Mass as the newly installed head of the Archdiocese of Capiz.

In his homily delivered mostly in the Hiligaynon dialect, Bendico urged the faithful to choose the narrow road like Jesus Christ when Christianity began. “It’s the road to salvation,” Bendico said. This Mass at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral was Bendico’s second as archbishop. The 63-year-old prelate is the fourth archbishop who is a native of Capiz. The province did not have an archbishop for two years after Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Jose Advincula as the new cardinal of Manila. As the leader of the more than 820,000 Catholics across the province, Bendico oversees 67 parishes and mission stations. Bendico reiterated his sentiment that his journey back home to Capiz is part of his growing mission to serve God. “I will be there with you in this journey that Pope Francis reminded us, especially in the Ecclessial communities,” Bendico said. Bendico served the Diocese of Baguio before he was reassigned to Capiz.
