Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri congratulates President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for securing $1.3 billion worth of investment pledges from his just-concluded five-day official visit to the United States (US).
Zubiri: PBBM to bring home the whole pig, not just the bacon
At a glance
President Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ Marcos Jr. will be bringing home not only "the bacon", but the entire pig.
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri issued this statement after the Chief Executive secured investment pledges from United States (US) corporations worth $1.3 billion.
The pledges came after Marcos and US President Joe Biden met in Washington days ago.
Zubiri had asked the President to "bring home the bacon" ahead of the latter's trip to the US.
‘’Malaki rin yun (That is huge). Di lang bacon inuwi nya, buong baboy na dala niya (He is not only bringing home the bacon, but the whole pig). Kaya congratulations to the President (So, congratulations to the President). Nakita niyo naman sked nya, every day walang patid ang meeting (You have seen his heavy schedule, every day he had meetings),’’ Zubiri pointed out during a DWIZ radio interview on Saturday, May 6.
‘’Mga business leaders ka-meeting niya, kapag ka-meeting mo ang President ng Pilipinas iba ang dating pagdating sa confidence na ibibigay mo sa foreign investors na ito (He met with business leaders and the President gave confidence to the business leaders that he met with). It will be followed through by the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry),’’ he said.
Zubiri said the US appears to have re-established closer ties with the Philippines after it cooled off during the previous administration.
Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III said it was good that
Marcos was able to strengthen Philippine-US relations.
However, the $1.3-billion pledges would still be implemented in the future, he said.
Pimentel said that the overall strengthening of Philippine relations should not only be on the military aspect but also the trade and economic aspect, with the US buying Philippine products.
The US should also help Philippine agriculture, he stressed.
The Senate chief fiscalizer said the US strengthened its agriculture before it shifted to a war-based economy.
