Juggling duties as part of the Sibol national team and as a club playing in a highly competitive league like the MPL Philippines Season 11 certainly have its costs to pay even if it’s a team as great as Bren Esports.
Head coach Francis “Duckeyy” Glindro agreed that the grueling schedule for Bren Esports players who are also part of the Sibol MLBB national team has in some way contributed to the team’s shocking 1-3 collapse against Blacklist International in the upper bracket semifinals. “To an extent I think it has an effect dun sa naging performance namin today kasi there are certain things na kayang kaya basahin all throughout sa seven games na laro namin dun sa IESF,” said Duckeyy during the series’ post-match press conference. Days before the formal start of the MPL PH playoffs, Duckeyy and his wards had to play three series during the SEA qualifier for the 15th World Esports Championship set in Iasi, Romania later in the year. Bren didn’t really break a sweat during the tournament, sweeping their way to a spot in the Asia + Oceania qualifiers after taking down the likes of Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia. However, fatigue seemed to finally catch up with its players during the series against Blacklist where Bren Esports played differently from the team that finished in the top seed of the eliminations. To make matters worse, the MPL Philippines stint won’t be the last in Bren Esports’ grueling schedule as it also still has to fly to Cambodia to represent the country in the MLBB men’s event in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games. “I can only hope na next time around if there are future teams that will be participating in the SEA Games hindi sana ganito yung mangyari sa kanila na sobrang iksi lang ng (preparation),” said Duckeyy. “Actually we are not given a time to prepare for the SEA Games we were given a day though so we can only be thankful na mayroon kaming isang araw to breathe,” he added. Make no mistake though, Duckeyy and the rest of his team are in no way complaining as he assured that his crew are always ready to answer the call of the flag and the country “To answer the question, yup meron talagang factor wala naman kaming magagawa dun eh. We just really have to represent the country in all the tournaments that we’re in,” he stressed.
