Paalam, a Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, made his title campaign felt in the men’s 54kg after claiming a unanimous decision victory over hometown bet Sao Rangsey for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The win arranged the 2019 Manila edition champion a Final 8 meeting with Malaysian Daeloniel Mc Delon Bong, who earned an opening round bye.

Bascon, likewise, dominated his Myanmar foe Aung Soe Moe via unanimous decision to also advance to the quarters of the men’s 60kg.

He next faces Vietnamese Thanh Dat Vu, who had a bye.

The PH boxing team guns to eclipse its three-gold medal haul in last year’s edition of the meet held in Vietnam.
