PHNOM PENH, Cambodia—Jerard Jacinto reset his own national record on his way to winning the bronze medal in the men’s 100-meter backstroke in the swimming competitions of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Morodok Techo National Stadium here.
Jacinto, who just turned 22 the day before, timed 55.99 seconds to eclipse his own mark of 56.27sec he posted in the World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 2019.
It was enough to give him a podium finish behind Singapore’s Quah Zheng Wen, who retained his gold medal in 55.22sec, and Indonesia’s Farrel Armandio Tangkas, who posted 55.80sec for the silver.
Teia Salvino, Miranda Renner, Xiandi Chua and Jasmine Alkhaldi also took the spotlight by bagging the silver medal in the women’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay with a time of 3 minutes and 47.96 seconds behind eventual gold medalist Singapore, who timed 3:44.29.
