There’s a much deeper reason behind John “Irrad” Tuazon’s splendid performance in the MPL Philippines Season 11 playoffs.
More than winning, the RSG Slate Philippines jungler, who has taken the league by storm in the first two days of playoffs, said he wanted to pay honor to his late coach Ivan “Navi” Gacho whom he played for the first seven weeks of the season during their stint in the MDL Philippines. Irrad shared that he is dedicating his performance to his coach who passed away just two weeks ago. “Na-motivate ako nang sobra. Lalo pa nung last two weeks nung nawala yung coach namin. Inalay ko rin yung laro ko para sa kanya,” said Irrad who obviously turned a bit emotional during the post-game press conference. Getting much of his confidence from his stellar run in the MDL with Navi, Irrad made sure to prove his worth upon making the leap to the MPL PH – none bigger than his performance in the first two days of the playoffs. After a memorable debut in RSG Slate’s 3-0 sweep of Onic in the opening day, Irrad put up a performance to remember in his budding pro career, leading the MSC champions to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the M4 king ECHO. Irrad particularly owned the spotlight in Game 4 when he utilized a Lancelot pick that left the huge crowd in the venue in awe with his dazzling play. “Una kasi 1-2 na yung standing namin tapos nakikita ko yung mga kakampi ko nada-down na. Edi ako parang sige enjoyin ko na lang, laruin ko na lang ‘tong laro na ‘to,” said Irrad who finished with an 8-2-5 line on the Lancelot. “Then sinabi ni coach yung Lance first pick, ginanahan ako. Confident kasi ako gamitin yung hero na yun e, edi nung time na yun wala akong pakialam kung mabaog kakampi ko. Wala akong pakialam kung mabasagan kami ng tower, kahit makuha nila yung objectives basta makuha ko iyong gusto ko,” he added. Such guts and mentality proved to be the lift RSG Slate needed as Irrad’s Game 4 performance seemed to light the fire in the reigning MSC champions and fuel the come-from-behind run. "Nakakatuwa lang kasi yung instinct na ginamit ko is gumana. Yung mechanics ko naman sa laro na yun, parang ‘di pa yun yung pinaka totoong mechanics nung laro ko."
