Gatchalian orders recall, replacement of relief good item due to 'foul odor' complaints

"It is important to note that the canned tuna are not expired as can be seen from the samples presented in social media," the agency said in a statement on Saturday, May 6. Gatchalian has already directed all DSWD Regional Field Offices to recall the canned goods as well as its Central Office to ask for replacement of the items. "The DSWD Secretary also directed concerned officials to study all options including sanctions on the supplier, withholding of payment and even blacklisting from the list of accredited suppliers," the agency added. On Friday, residents and fisherfolk groups from the area affected by the sunken M/T Princess Empress conducted a protest regarding the "insufficient" assistance they have been receiving since the incident. Aside from that, the protestors also expressed dismay at said relief goods provided by DSWD. Â
