Marcos' US trip a 'resounding success', says House leader

A resounding success. That's how House Committee on Appropriations Chairman and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co described President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s five-day official visit to the United States (US) "The official visit of President  Ferdinand Marcos Jr to the United States is undoubtedly a resounding success given the scope and details of the multifaceted packages of commitments the President has secured," Co said. The highlight of Marcos' trip was his one-on-one meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington. Co specifically drummed up the incoming United States Agency for International Development (USAID) assistance amounting to $100 million over a five-year period. According to the White House, the assistance package is meant to increase access to safe drinking water for 1.22 million Filipinos; and provide sanitation services to 710,000 people while strengthening water management institutions, increasing access to climate-resilient water supply, improving water resource management, and addressing water financing gaps. "I must call attention to the other components, which will also have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of Filipinos all over the country. USAID assistance on water security, food security, disaster infrastructure development, transportation, clean energy, environment protection, scholarships, new leaders development, trade, and investments will all have an intense targeted impact where they are needed most," noted Co. The Bicolano also looked forward to the arrival of the two cyclone-class coastal patrol vessels, which were transferred to the Philippines in late April and are now en route to Manila, according to the White House. He also anticipated the approval of two island-class patrol vessels, two protector-class patrol vessels, and three C-130H aircraft by the US Congress in order to improve the capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). "We commend the agencies, Cabinet secretaries, senior officials, and personnel whose efforts resulted in the specific items of commitments contained in the factsheet released by the Biden White House," Co said.
