Classes suspended in Bacolod, Negros Occidental due to heavy rains
BACOLOD CITY – Classes here and in some parts of Negros Occidental were suspended on Thursday, May 4, due to heavy rains caused by the intertropical convergence zone and low-pressure area (LPA).

Local government units (LGUs) in the province that announced class suspension include the towns of E.B. Magalona and Pulupandan and the cities of Himamaylan, Kabankalan, Silay, Victorias, San Carlos, and Talisay. Early this week, flooding was reported in San Carlos City after heavy rains on Tuesday night, May 2. The floodwater began to subside the following day. On Wednesday, May 3, two families were evacuated in Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City because of flooding, according to the city government. Flooding was also reported in some areas here but the water eventually subsided. The local weather forecast as of 11 a.m. on Thursday warned of possible flood and landslides due to rains triggered by thunderstorms in Negros Occidental, including Himamaylan, Kabankalan, Sipalay, and the towns of Ilog, Cauayan, Candoni, and Hinoba-an. The LPA was estimated based on all available data in the vicinity of southwest Cuyo, Palawan, as of 11 a.m.
