Suspect in killing of Calapan City broadcaster dies in motorcycle crash, police say
One of the two suspects in the killing of a local broadcaster in Calapan City died in a motorcycle crash, a police official said on Wednesday, May 31.
Police Col. Samuel Delorino, director of the Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office, said the suspect who died was identified as Narciso Ignacio Guntan after he suffered serious head injuries.
He said the motorcycle crash happened when the son of slain broadcast journalist Cresenciano Aldovino Bundoquin engaged in a motorcycle chase after the gun attack occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Sta. Isabel in Calapan City.
Bundoquin, a commentator of dwXR 101.7 Kalahi FM MUX Online Radio, was shot dead in front of a variety store which he owns in Barangay Sta. Isabel.
“The back rider alighted from the motorcycle and suddenly approached the victim, shooting him several times in different parts of his body,” said Delorino in a statement.
“The suspects immediately fled the scene, but the victim's son gave a chase and accidentally bumped into the suspect’s motorcycle,” he added.
As a result of the collision, Delorino said Guntan suffered head injuries that caused his death.
The other suspect, however, was able to flee.
Delorino has committed to solve the killing of Bundoquin, especially that national police chief Gen Benjamin Acorda, Jr. has already issued an order to solve the killing in the soonest possible time.
“We will update the public in any detail as to the development of the investigation. We guarantee to bring swift justice to the victim and his family,” said Delorino.
For his part, Police Regional Office 4B director Brig. Gen. Joel Doria said they will exhaust all the means to identify and arrest all those responsible in the killing of Bundoquin.
"We take this incident very seriously, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the death of Cresencio Bunduquin will be brought to justice. Likewise, I urge the public who may have information regarding the incident to come forward to expedite the resolution of the incident.” said Doria.
Doria then called on anyone with information on the incident to come forward and cooperate with the authorities and likewise assured to give updates on the investigation as soon as they become available.
