BUTUAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-13 has conducted almost 2,000 checkpoints to deter crime in the Caraga region from May 23 to 29.
PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II said they rendered a total of 10,332 checkpoint hours in 1,937 checkpoint operations in line with its efforts to protect and secure residents from lawless elements.
Labra said this all-out effort of PRO-13 is also in accordance with the five-focused agenda of Police Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), particularly in conducting aggressive and honest law enforcement operations.
“Our checkpoints act as a deterrent to criminal activities by creating a visible presence of police officers in strategic locations,” Labra said on Wednesday, May 31.
“We ensure that no contrabands or prohibited items shall pass through our established checkpoints,” Labra added.

Most of these violations were no seatbelt, no and expired driver’s license, expired registration, unauthorized plate number, no official receipt, no certificate of registration, no helmet, and no plate number. Labra advised motorists to bring all necessary documents, including their license, vehicle registration, and official receipts when traveling. He assured the public that checkpoints were conducted within the framework of the law and respect of human rights. “PNP-Caraga is determined to sustain our checkpoint operations in line with our crime prevention efforts,” Labra said. “Because if we look at our operational accomplishments in the past, some of them were accomplished during checkpoints such as the arrest of wanted persons, interception of Communist Terrorist Group’s (CTGs) supplies and other armaments, and confiscation of loose firearms and illegal drugs.”
