Pasig LGU showcases student-made posters for World No Tobacco Day
The Pasig City local government showcased the top nine artworks of Grade 8 and 9 school students who joined the city’s poster-making contest to celebrate World No Tobacco Day.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Vice Mayor Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., and members of the City Council conferred certificates to the winners during an awarding ceremony on Monday, May 29 at the city hall.

The first place winner was Kelvin Kirk Papna from Manggahan High School (MHS), followed by Zhanear Tuazon from Pinagbuhatan High School (PHS), second place; and Ram Kalvin Roldan from MHS, third place. The poster-making contest aimed to entice the youth’s creativity and involvement in promoting healthy lifestyles and discouraging the use of tobacco, especially among their peers. The artworks depicted the students’ visual interpretations of the World No Tobacco Day theme, “We need food, not tobacco!”

The posters were judged by a panel composed of Engr. Virgilio Edralin Licuan, the director and officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) Metropolitan Environmental Office - East; Jaya Ebuen, development management officer (DMO) IV from the Department of Health Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD); Jasmin Lagahit, project manager for the Smoke-Free Environment program of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA); and Epifenia Capco-Casal of AKTIB Philippines - Social Watch Organization. The winners were determined based on the posters’ creativity (30 percent), relevance to the theme (30 percent), visual impact (25 percent), and originality (15 percent).

Aside from certificates, the three winners also received school gadgets worth P6,500 (for first place), P4,500 (second place), and P4,000 (third place). The six other artists also each received school gadgets worth P2,500 as consolation prizes, according to the Pasig City Health Department (CHD). The posters of the top nine artists may be viewed in an exhibit on the seventh floor of the Pasig City Hall until Friday, June 2.
