In its latest bulletin on Wednesday, May 31 issued at 5 p.m., "Betty" was seen at 410 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gutsiness of up to 150 kph as it moved 15 kph northward. However, despite "Betty" moving northward to exit PAR, the Southwest Monsoon or "Habagat" continued to affect central and southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Meanwhile, unlike in the 11 a.m. update, there were no areas placed under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 2 but Batanes and the eastern portion of Babuyan island will remain under TCWS no. 1. Thus, the threat of "strong" winds is expected and its potential hazard to life and property. Moreover, gale warning no. 9 was raised for the northern seaboards of northern Luzon, the western seaboard of southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts were advised to remain in port as precautions against big waves. *(Sonny Daanoy)*
