P700,000 fake cigarettes seized in Danao City

CEBU CITY – Boxes of fake cigarettes worth P700,000 were seized in a buy-bust operation in Danao City, northern Cebu on Tuesday, May 30.
BOXES of fake cigarettes were seized from a house in Barangay Looc, Danao City, northern Cebu on Tuesday night, May 30. (Contributed photo) The fake cigarettes were seized from the house of 59-year-old Fernando Beduya in Barangay Looc at past 7 p.m. Beduya was arrested by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Regional Field Unit 7 after he was caught allegedly selling counterfeit cigarettes. Officials from the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Co. were around during the operation. Various of brands of cigarettes with an estimated value of P700,000 were seized during the operation. Charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 8293 or Intellectual Property Code and RA 10643 or the Graphic Health Warnings Law will be filed against the suspect, police said.
