GMA's 14 hit shows to air in Africa

Philippine media giant GMA Network continues to extend its global reach by securing agreements to air 14 of its hit shows in Africa to become a major provider of top-notch Filipino content in the world’s second largest continent.

In a statement, the network said that, through its content distribution arm GMA Worldwide, it has sold 14 titles for a total of 492 hours, with the shows set to air on major TV stations in Africa from 2023 to 2024.

Groundbreaking GMA dramas The First Nanny (First Yaya), The First Lady, Once Again, Someone to Watch Over Me, and Impostora continue to conquer the global TV audience as these shows will be available this year in 41 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Hit series Crocodile Whisperer (Lolong), The Fake Life, Sahaya, and Hidden Lies (Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday) are set to be shown in the said countries the following year.

Also to premiere in Ghana this 2023 as well are well-loved Filipino series Article 247, Rhodora X, Love of My Life, Broken Faith (Magkaagaw) and Beautiful Strangers.

These latest deals give viewers all over Africa the chance to experience and enjoy the best of Filipino entertainment from the Philippines' leading provider of superior content, GMA Network.

GMA is undertaking various initiatives to expand its earnings base such as growing its free TV offerings, enter into partnerships, and further develop its digital presence.

During the firm’s recent annual stockholders’ meeting, GMA Chairman Felipe Gozon said “We are getting into strategic distribution partnerships with other platforms – this is the reason why Maria Clara & Ibarra continues to be No. 1 in Netflix Philippines, and The Write One amongst the Top 5 most-watched in Viu Philippines.”

“Recently, GMA signed a distribution deal with TFC and iWantTV for select countries in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and South Pacific and Caribbean Islands, so we are pretty excited about the deal,” he added.

GMA is also into production deals with various producers outside GMA – working with TAPE, Regal, VIVA, ABS-CBN and even independent producers.

“We are now in an era of partnerships and this has led our expansion to new genres and diversified our revenue streams. Through Program Management, we have exciting collaborations with various content producers in the country,

“Our Worldwide Division is spearheading content licensing deals with international streaming leaders Netflix and Viu,

“We are returning to the silver screen with 6 films in the pipeline. Production has been completed for The Cheating Game while shooting has started for The Firefly,” said Gozon.
