CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Four persons were rescued from a rampaging river in Sudipen, this province, on Tuesday afternoon, May 30.
AMBURAYAN River (Wikipedia) Police identified them as Sudipen residents Mariano Mostoles, 65; Mark Marquez, 29; Domingo Ramos, 47; and Luie Piaoan, 33. Mostoles was catching fish in middle of the Amburayan River using a handmade bamboo trap with three others when the water level suddenly went up due to heavy rains from tropical cyclone “Betty.” Sudipen police and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) immediately responded and rescued them in less than an hour. They underwent checkup before they were taken home. Police Brig. Gen.  John C. Chua, Police Region 1 director, commended the responders and reminded the people to exercise safety and caution during inclement weather. “We cannot control the power of nature that is why we must remain cautious. As much as possible, let us stay at home during storms to avoid accidents and other mishaps,” said Chua.
