CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – A New People’s Army leader and three others surrendered to the police in Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte on Tuesday, May 30.
The Police Regional Office-1 identified the surrenderers as “Ka Omar,” 54, a commander of the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB); “Ka Freddie,” 35, a former assistant commander; and “Ka Jonex,” residents of Mabini, Pangasinan; and “Ka Orlando,” 41, of Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte.
Pangasinan police chief Col. Jeff E. Fanged said the rebel returnees from Pangasinan surrendered one M1 Garand Rifle with one clip and six bullets and one carbine rifle with two magazines and ammunition.
Fanged witnessed the surrender of the three NPA rebels and signing of their oath of allegiance to the government.
Ka Orlando turned over a 12-gauge shotgun. He was a member of the medical and assault teams of the Franklin Areola and Zacharias Agatep Commands in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, and Apayao from 2004 to 2008.
Police Brig. Gen. John C. Chua, Ilocos police chief, said concerned agencies are now processing the benefits of these four communist fighters under the Enhanced Comprehensive Livelihood Integration Program (E-CLIP).
