Tacloban fire: 42 houses destroyed

TACLOBAN CITY – A fire of still unknown origin destroyed at least 42 houses on Monday afternoon, May 29, in Brgy. 42 Cong. Mate/Avenida Extension, this city. The authorities said they still have to determine the cause of the fire which immediately spread since most of the houses were made of light materials. The fire started at around 1:20 p.m. and lasted until 3:20 p.m. No one was reported injured during the incident. Fire Investigator Senior Fire Officer 1 Fernando Cadavis Jr., said the estimated cost of damage is more or less P500 thousand. Meanwhile, City Mayor Alfred Romualdez said they immediately sent food packs to at least 94 affected families, while financial assistance will also be extended to them.
