Authorities have recaptured the South Korean fugitive who managed to escape from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) jail in Bicutan, Taguig City.
On Monday, May 29, Â agents of the BI's intelligence division (ID) and fugitive search unit (FSU) arrested 38-year old Kang Juchun in a condominium unit located on N. Domingo St. in Brgy. Ermitano, San Juan City.
Kang's escape from the BI facility occurred on May 21.
Scaling a 20-foot fence topped with barbed wires, he breached the perimeter of the warden's facility.
Utilizing a blind spot in the facility's CCTV coverage, Kang climbed the fence but unfortunately fell onto the cemented road below.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco reported that Kang was limping at the time of his arrest.
The fugitive had been the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Seonsan Branch of the Daejon District Court in February, pertaining to murder charges.
Kang was first arrested in February when immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport apprehended him upon his arrival from Bangkok.
Alongside Kang, two other South Koreans named Lim Kyung Sup, 43, and Kim Mi Kyung were also arrested for harboring him.
In addition to their charges of harboring a fugitive, all three individuals now face criminal charges related to the seizure of more than one kilo of methamphetamine or shabu during a raid.
The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be more than P10 million.
The BI's database revealed that both Lim and Kim are already considered overstaying aliens, further complicating their legal situation.
