Iconic style moments don’t just happen on the runway. It also took place on the street, in film and TV shows, as well as on the court and other sporting platforms. A testament to the latter was that moment in the 1996 World Series, wherein in a sea of navy blue caps for the Yankees, a red one stood out. The person wearing it was American filmmaker Spike Lee. His red baseball cap marked a cultural turning point for lifestyle brand New Era and for its champion piece, the 59Fifty cap. Spike Lee wearing his red Yankees 59Fifty cap
In 1954, New Era began producing 59Fifty caps for the Major League Baseball (MLB). But it was in 1993 that the New York-based brand became the official on-field cap for the MLB.  59Fifty caps can be bent at the brim which allows it to have a different feel. However, more and more people prefer to wear it with a flat brim, maintaining the exceptional and incomparable look that the 59Fifty is well-known for. The cap’s crown is called a constructed crown. This is used to strengthen the front panels of the cap, giving it a more firm and rigid impression. It also helps in maintaining its shape and form through time. Since then, the fitted cap was seen everywhere, not just on the baseball field, but also in music videos and other media, making it a true piece of pop culture with fans all over the world including the Philippines.
