Erwin Tulfo takes oath as ACT-CIS Party-list nominee

Former Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary Ewin Tulfo took his oath of office Tuesday night, May 30 as the third nominee of ACT-CIS Party-list. House Majority Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe administered Tulfo's oath. However, Tulfo, also a former broadcast journalist, cannot join the House roll yet, since the chamber has yet to receive his certificate of nomination from the Commission on Elections (Comelec). This requirement was raised by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, who joined Dalipe in a press conference earlier that evening when the latter confirmed that Tulfo would indeed take his oath Tuesday. Earlier this year, Tulfo failed to get a confirmation on his appointment as the first DSWD secretary of the Marcos administration. As it stands, the House still has 311 members. Tulfo will have become the 312th active congressman, once his papers are in order. In an interview with House of Representatives reporters after the oathtaking, Tulfo said he expects to formally join the list of congressmen before President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24, 2023. Incidentally, Congress will end the first regular session of the 19th Congress on Wednesday, May 31. Solons will go on a two-month recess afterward.
Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo and Edvic Yap are the other two nominees of ACT-CIS. The erstwhile third nominee, Rep. Jeffrey Soriano, resigned on Feb. 6, as per Dalipe's announcement in plenary last Feb. 22. ACT-CIS Party-list was the top vote-getter in the party-list race during the May 2022 elections.
