The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) signed on Tuesday, May 30, a memorandum of understanding for the integration of technological solutions in higher education institutions (HEIs) through the e-governance system.
"We need to be able to integrate IT solutions in the way we do things in higher education. We can start with the most obvious needs that students have which is their diploma and transcript of records," said CHED Chairperson J. Prospero E. De Vera III.
These "low-hanging fruits", as de Vera said, will be the first focus of the partnership between the two agencies.

It will be followed by the online incorporation of HEIs records across the country to make sure that these data will be secured and not destroyed even in times of calamities.
"And so therefore we need to be able to integrate all the higher education institutions so that everyone moves along the same line having IT solutions to make this available," he continued.
Through the forged partnership, CHED can also fast-track the release of the Certification Authentication and Verification, a document needed by those who plan to study or work abroad.
The implementation of e-governance, de Vera explained, will be highly beneficial, especially since the Philippines is an archipelago where institutions are separated not just physically but even in terms of technological advancement.
He also assured that those who are yet to use technology with their data management practice will receive assistance from CHED and other concerned agencies.
Launch of the eGov PH Super App
Meanwhile, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said in his speech that the "eGov PH Super App" is set for launch this week.
This downloadable online application will streamline about 600 government agencies and serve as a one-stop shop for users who wish to transact with several agencies through a single and secured platform.
Among the government services that users can access are the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Pag-IBIG, passport applications, and even business permit applications.
Moreover, its users may also send their complaints to specific government offices using this app.
