Baguio-Benguet Electric Cooperative reports restoration of electricity with minimal damages
BAGUIO CITY -- The Baguio-Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) reported the damage to its property caused by Typhoon Betty’s gusty winds and rains reached P220,631.33.
The electric cooperative incurred expenses on replacement of two broken primary poles at Suyoc, Banangan, Sablan worth P161,536.04 last Sunday and a broken pole at PMA, Fort del Pilar, Baguio City worth P59,095.29. The poles were replaced on Tuesday, May 30.
As of 12 noon of May 30 the co-op has restored 98.92% of total households in its area of responsibility.
Most of the household concerns in the mountain hideaway caused by the typhoon had already been addressed by the cooperative.
The towns of Mankayan and Kabayan are 100% restored.
The hardest hit is the municipality of Sablan at only 50% followed by Tuba at 61.54%; Atok at 75%; Itogon at 77.78; Buguias at 78.57%; Kibungan and Bakun at 85.71%; La Trinidad and Tublay at 87.50%; Bokod at 90%;; Kapangan at 93.33%.
There were 33 reported incidents with varying coverage areas that were restored on Tuesday noon, according to Engr. Christopher George Tait, officer in charge of Network Services Department System Control & Protection Office.
BENECO dispatched 46 linemen, 28 linemen of jobbers, in addition to the 17 linemen already in place at Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet.
The BENECO crew in Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet were sent there for the house wiring of the Sitio Electrification Project (SEP), but will also serve as restoration crew in case of reports of power interruption in the area due to typhoon Betty.
Interestingly, out of the 33 incidents, ten were due to tree branches that fell on primary lines and most of these were eucalyptus and pine trees in Baguio City, bamboos, and one narra tree in Cadtay Paykek, Kapangan, Benguet.
