Defending champion National University fended off Adamson, 22-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-15, to advance in the finals of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday night, May 3, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Bulldogs recovered from their opening-set loss to forge a finals rematch against De La Salle Lady Spikers, who made a similar trip back to the finals with a four-set win over the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses earlier.
Bella Belen tallied 29 points to match her career-high built on 22 attacks, five blocks and an ace, while Alyssa Solomon delivered 21 points on 17 attacks, one block and three aces.
NU bucked a slow start before showing complete dominance over Adamson in the next three sets.
After trailing by a set, the Lady Bulldogs raced to an early 8-3 lead in the second set. However, NU encountered some fightback from Adamson which crawled back from 11-4 down.
NU refused to stand back and held on until the end to tie the game at one set apiece.
From then on, the Lady Bulldogs regained control of the match and destroyed the Lady Falcons in the next two sets.
Kate Santiago and Loren Toring led the way for Adamson with 15 and 11 points, respectively, in the losing cause.
NU and La Salle will meet for a best-of-three finals series on Sunday, May 7, back at the Big Dome.
