Four individuals were reportedly hurt after a train of the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) activated its emergency brake while approaching the Boni Serrano Station on Wednesday, May 3, the MRT-3 said.
"At 9:08 a.m. today, the automatic train protection (ATP) system of a train, which is its safety feature, activated an emergency brake to stop a defective train approaching Boni Station," the MRT-3 said in its advisory.
"The defective train has resumed movement by 9:16 a.m., upon intervention by on-board technicians. The train has also been removed for further troubleshooting by MRT-3's maintenance provider," it added.
Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT-3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette Aquino expressed her apologies to the train's passengers as well as to the other passengers of the transportation system for the incident.
"Stations and security personnel have been instructed to provide all assistance to the passengers onboard the train when its emergency brake was activated. Four passengers who sustained minor injuries are also already being provided with first aid by Lifeline emergency medical technicians (EMTs)," the management noted.
The MRT-3 management is still determining the cause of the ATP's activation.
