Negros Occidental bans pork products from Negros Oriental due to ASF
BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has issued a memorandum banning the entry of live pigs, pork, and pork-related products from Negros Oriental into the province in order to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

Jeffrey Ferrer on May 22, in light of the confirmation of the Bureau of Animal Industry that the laboratory samples of the swine deaths in Barangay Maayong Tubig, Dauin, Negros Oriental were caused by the ASF virus. The order cited that “pursuant to Section 2 of Ordinance No. 2019-024, Series of 2019, otherwise known as the ‘African Swine Fever Prevention Ordinance of Negros Occidental,’ the pork ban from the Oriental side is implemented.” The province has been protecting the P6-billion swine industry from ASF in the past four years. Concerned agencies involved in securing the province against the ASF have intensified their measures. ASF checkpoint operations in the borders of the province have been heightened to protect the hog industry. The provincial government and the city government of Bacolod will soon create a joint executive order to contain the presence of ASF here, considering that two pigs in Barangay Taculing have initially tested positive for ASF. The two pigs came from a piggery in Bago City, according to Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez. But a confirmatory test will be conducted in Manila, he added.
