CEZA warehouse in Cagayan collapses due to ‘Betty’


SANTA Ana, Cagayan – A warehouse at the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) in Port Irene, Barangay Casambalangan here collapsed due to strong winds from typhoon “Betty” (international name “Mawar” on Monday, May 29.

Police said nobody was killed or injured in the incident.

Initial report from the Police Regional Office-2 said damage to the warehouse was estimated at about P10 million.

Police Major Manes Cadingan, chief of police here, said on-duty security guard John Albert Urmatam was conducting roving inspection when the warehouse suddenly collapsed.

Urmatam notified the police who immediately proceeded to the area and found the building totally destroyed. Equipment inside incurred undetermined cost of damage.

This town is under storm signal No. 2 as Betty further slowed down.

As of 5 p.m. on Monday, Betty was spotted by the State weather bureau at 445 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, moving north-northwest at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph.
