20 towns in Bicol suspend classes due to 'Betty'


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Twenty municipalities in Bicol region suspended classes on all levels on Monday, May 29, due to the effects of tropical cyclone "Betty," the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol said.

In a 3 p.m. media advisory issued by OCD-Bicol, the suspension took effect Monday morning "until lifted."

Municipalities that suspended classes in Camarines Norte were Vinzons, Paracale, Jose Panganiban, Capalonga, Talisay, Daet, Mercedes, and Basud.

In Camarines Sur,  Caramoan, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, Tinambac, and Siruma; and Bato, Caramoan, Viga, Gigmoto, Panganiban, Bagamanoc, and Pandan in Catanduanes.

OCD-Bicol said these towns which suspended classes are under tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 1 except for Bato which suspended classes due to inclement weather condition.

A "no sailing" policy has been implemented in the western seaboard of Bicol to prevent accidents at sea.
