Coast Guard: Several passenger vessels cancel sea trips in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY -- Several passenger vessels canceled sea trips on Sunday, May 28, despite no area in Western Visayas region under storm signal due to typhoon "Betty."

“It’s not the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) that canceled the trips.  It’s the initiative of companies as precautionary measures,” said Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin, PCG-6 spokesperson.

The most number of sea trip cancellations were in Antique province with 13 vessels canceling.

According to the PCG substation in Culasi town, 10 vessels with the route from mainland Culasi to Mararison Island cancelled. These were MBCA Star Cancer 1, MBCA April Grace, MBCA Rojemark 2, MBCA MRD 1, MBCA Rynz Yna, MBCA Chasper Mae, MBCA Casa Prante, MBCA Ello, MBCA John Russel, and MBCA Aloma Island Cruiser.

There were also cancellations from Lipata Port to Caluya Island. These are MBCA Sarah Jean 2 and MV Argo de Oro 2.

In Negros Occidental province, there were three cancelations. These were MV Balt-Bep Expedition with the route Cadiz Port to Bantayan, Cebu; MV Balt-Bep Journeys Montenegro from Bacolod City to Dumangas, Iloilo; and LCT Golden Lotus 2 from Sagay City to Estancia, Iloilo.

In Iloilo province, there were two cancellations. These are MV Felipe from Ajuy to EB Magalona, Negros Occidental and LCT Golden Lotus from Estancia to Sagay, Negros Occidental province.
