ILOILO CITY – Government agencies and local government units (LGUs) across Western Visayas region are beefing up preparations for super typhoon “Betty” (international name “Mawar”).
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-6 has raised its alert level and the RDRRMC-6 Operations Center has launched its 24/7 monitoring at the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-6.
The RDRRMC-6 is closely monitoring the track of Betty as it coordinates the preparatory efforts of other government agencies and LGUs in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 has around P89-million worth of food packs and other relief goods on standby.
No storm signal has been raised in any area of Western Visayas and business is still as usual as of Saturday, May 27.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG-6) has not issued advisories or notices.
“No sea trip cancellation orders,” said Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin, PCG-6 spokesperson. “No area is under Signal No. 1,” Benjamin added.
