Himamaylan police chief Police Lt. Col. Reynante Jomocan Jr. said the victim and his wife were at the rice field near their house when Enmacino was approached by two unidentified persons.
The perpetrators told the victim’s wife to go home as they had something to talk about with the victim. Gunshots were then heard after his wife left the rice field, Jomocan said.
The victim suffered bullet wounds in the head and chest, according to the police. He was declared dead in a hospital.
The victim’s wife turned over to the police a cartridge case of a 5.56mm caliber firearm.
Jomocan said they are verifying information if indeed the victim was an asset or informant of the military.
He also said that the victim reportedly had links to the New People’s Army (NPA), who was killed in a clash with government forces in the said village in April 2022.
